Locate by phone number

Enter a family member’s number. They get an invite. When they accept, you see their location on the map, and they see yours. That is the whole mechanism, and it never skips the middle step.

Step by step

How to locate a phone by number

To locate by phone number you need four steps and two phones. Steps 1 and 4 are yours. Steps 2 and 3 belong to the person you are inviting.

01

Open the app and tap Invite

Type the number with its country code, or pick it from your contacts.

02

They receive a text

It carries your name and a link. If they do not have the app, the link installs it first.

03

They accept

The screen states what will be shared and with whom. Accept turns location on for both sides.

04

See them on your map

Their pin appears with address, time of last update and battery. Yours appears on theirs. That is all it takes to locate cell phone by number: an invite and a yes.

What you see once they accept

Location by phone number, in practice, is this list. Nothing else is collected from their phone, and this is what it means to locate by phone number here.

  • Live position on the map, with accuracy radius
  • Street address and time since the last update
  • Battery level, and an alert when it runs low
  • Arrivals and departures at places you both saved
  • Today’s route, if they keep location history on

How location history works, and what it does not show

What this does not do

People search “locate phone by number” hoping for a trick that works on any number. There is none here. If you came for one of these, this is not the tool.

  • Locate a phone number that has not accepted an invite
  • Locate a stranger, an unknown caller or a lost phone
  • Work without the app on the other phone
  • Hide from the other person that you can see them
FAQ

Questions about locating a phone number

Can I see location by phone number if they do not have the app?

No. The invite link installs the app on their phone first. Their position comes from their own device, with their permission, not from the phone network.

Can I locate someone by phone number who has not agreed?

No, and the app is built so that it cannot. Every pin on your map belongs to a person who accepted your invite and can remove themselves at any time.

Can I locate by phone number in another country?

Yes. Enter the number with its country code. Once they accept, distance does not matter; they only need data or Wi-Fi.

Will they know I can see their location?

Always. They accepted it, they see you on their map, and the members list shows exactly who can see whom.

Send the first invite in about two minutes.

Five quick questions, then straight into the app. Or go back to the family locator app overview.
